A Home for a Hero
Local Golfers Support Building Homes For Heroes

Tampa, Fl April 16 - Sergeant Joel Tavera’s life was changed in 2008 when his Humvee was hit by five rockets. He suffered burns over 60% of his body, lost vision in his both of his eyes, loss of his right leg and four fingers.

This year Sgt.Tavera was the recipient of a brand new home donated by Homes for Heroes. Homes for Heroes provide housing resources to our Nation’s heroes including Military personnel, police/peace officers, fire fighters and first responders.

According to the US Army, Sgt.Tavera is the second most severely injured Army Soldier in the war in Iraq. Sgt.Tavera is a great American Hero; uplifting, inspiring, and a pleasure to be around.

Today avid golfers, and wounded soldiers gathered to participate in the Homes for Heroes Golf Tournament

Mr. Jack Thompson (Founder of TAMCO Foundation), Retired Brigadier General Chip Diehl (Executive Director, Embracing Florida's Wounded Heroes) joined Mr. Dave Reynolds (Tampa Sportscaster) and Mr. Jeff Gareau (Operation Homefront) for an enjoyable afternoon with over 150 golfing supporters; hosted by The Windermere Country Club in Orlando.

Participating at the event was Specialist BJ Jackson, wounded soldier and Spokesman of TAMCO Foundation shown below with Jack and Chip after sinking a birdie putt for his team.
